Training weekend in lake district

George Starkey hut in Patterdale (google it for details)  Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd April

email davidosborn06@aol.com to check if any places are still available

2011 AGM - 25th October

The full minutes are to follow but the important decisions arising from the meeting are -

1.  Gordon and Richard will continue in their posts as treasurer and Secretary. Jean has been elected president - entirely on her cake making skills (joking!) Alan has finally retired as event organiser with Laurie taking over the Lomonds race, Richard the Bishop race and David 'coming out' as social organiser.

2. We agreed on the pottery bunkhouse at Laggan for our Christmas trip and at last we are planning to return to the Lakes for our training weekend.

3. Alan brought up (groans!) the subject of safety (again!) but with the increase in numbers and a  few recent potential mishaps a fruitful discussion took place with David pointing out that we need to act on our decisions and just not talk about them.

Alan's safety code of 10 proposals were discussed and received broad agreement.

The bottom line to remember that if we do lose someone or have a serious injury on a wild night things could become life threatening very quickly.

Safety Code

Personal

  1. Carry full waterproof body cover (essential to slow down hypothermia), hat and gloves, compass and whistle,  fleece on a cold night
  2. Run off multimaps of the hill and carry in bumbag.
  3. Have a working and adequate torch (with spare batteries).

communal

  1. Carry a club head torch or two - for emergency use only.
  2. Make sure that we have at least one of our blizzard shelters and the bivvy tent.
  3. Check that a few of us have mobile phones in our bum bags.
  4. Make sure that someone is carrying a small club first aid kit.
  5. Before we set off check how many of us there are and the leader explains the route.
  6. The ‘leaders’ should keep aware of the slower runners behind and not allow the party to get split – particularly in bad weather.
  7. Someone that knows the hill should be at the back to make sure no-one gets detached. If there is a problem communicate by whistle.
